How to Apply to Korean Universities: Fall vs Spring Admission Timeline
"Should I apply for March or September? I am afraid the deadline has already passed."
That worry is reasonable. A Korean university application deadline may arrive months before classes begin. The application, document review, result, registration, visa, and arrival are separate steps.
GoKorea Study is an information service. We publish what the official notices actually say, so you can decide for yourself. This guide is free information in simple English, based on published international admission information from Korean universities.
This article is information only. It is not legal or immigration advice. Admission and visa rules can change. Always check the university's own notice. For D-2 visa rules, also confirm with HiKorea, Korean immigration, and the Korean embassy or consulate responsible for your location.
This guide covers each university's own international admission schedule. It is not the GKS scholarship calendar. For scholarship dates, read GKS Timeline: Month-by-Month Application Schedule.
The Short Answer
Korean universities commonly admit international students for a spring start in March and a fall start in September. There is no single national deadline.
Verified university examples show how wide the calendar can be. For spring 2026, the University of Seoul accepted online applications from October 10 to 20, 2025. Jeju International University accepted applications from November 24 to December 5, 2025. For fall 2026, Yonsei University's international undergraduate application ran from March 10 to 26, while Gangneung Wonju National University's foreign undergraduate application ran from May 18 to June 12.
The safe rule is simple: choose the intake first, then work backward from the exact notice for your university, degree level, and admission track. A date from another university is not your deadline.

| Intake | Classes normally start | Application activity shown in verified 2026 examples | Final preparation before entry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | March | October to early January, depending on university and applicant group | Registration, D-2 application, housing, and arrival before the university's reporting date |
| Fall | September | February to July, depending on university and round | Registration, D-2 application, housing, and arrival before the university's reporting date |
These are planning ranges, not common deadlines. Universities may use one or several rounds. Calendars can differ by degree, transfer status, language track, and location.
Spring Admission Timeline: The March Start
October: Notices and Early Applications
Some spring cycles begin in October of the previous year. The University of Seoul's spring 2026 online application ran from October 10 to 20, 2025 for both undergraduate and graduate applicants. Hallym University's spring 2026 graduate document period ran from October 23 to November 11.
At this point, confirm the program, language rule, application route, and document deadline. Do not wait for a reminder email. If the online application closes, the university may not reopen it. Your next option may be another round or another intake. Always check the university's own notice.
November: Applications, Documents, and Interviews
November is active in several verified spring schedules. Daejin University's first undergraduate round accepted application materials from November 2 to 5, 2025. Document review followed on November 8, and interviews ran from November 9 to 12. Hallym University's graduate screening ran from November 24 to 28.
Jeju International University's spring application opened on November 24. This shows why one Korean university application deadline cannot represent every school.
If you submit the form but miss the document arrival rule, your file may remain incomplete. If an interview is required and you miss it, do not assume the university will offer another time. Follow the contact and rescheduling rule in the official notice.
December: Results, Registration, and Admission Documents
Daejin expected to announce its first-round result on November 13, with tuition payment from November 13 to 20. Its Certificate of Admission issuance period was December 1 to 12. Jeju International University scheduled its interview for December 9, result for December 15, and registration from December 22, 2025 to January 15, 2026.
These steps are connected. A result is not the end of the process. Read the acceptance instructions immediately. A missed payment or registration step can put the admission at risk. The exact consequence belongs to the university, so check its notice rather than guessing.
January: Complete Registration and Prepare the D-2 Application
Hallym University's spring graduate registration ran from January 6 to 8, 2026. Jeju International University's registration continued until January 15.
After the university tells you which admission documents it will issue, prepare the D-2 application under the instructions for your location. Do not copy a friend's embassy checklist.
If registration is late, the university may not issue or confirm what you need for the next step. If the visa application starts late, your arrival may also be late. Neither the university nor immigration is required to adjust the semester to fit your delay.
February: Visa, Housing, and Arrival Instructions
Use February as an action month, not an empty waiting month. Follow the university's housing, orientation, course registration, and arrival messages. Confirm what to do if the D-2 result is still pending.
Do not buy a flight based only on an expected visa date. If you cannot arrive by the university's permitted date, contact the international office. Late arrival, remote attendance, and deferral are university decisions, not automatic rights.
March: Enrollment Begins
Hallym University's spring 2026 semester began on March 2. Your own university may use a different date. Check the academic calendar and the international student notice.
Fall Admission Timeline: The September Start
February and March: Early Rounds Open
Some fall options start early. Yonsei University's Underwood International College second rolling round for fall 2026 ran from February 6 to April 3. Its international undergraduate and Global Leaders College application ran from March 10 to 26, with documents due by April 10.
If you only begin searching in summer, you may already have missed an early program. Build a shortlist before the first target notice opens; if teaching language is a key filter, start with Universities in Korea with English-Taught Degrees, then verify the exact program in the current admissions notice.
April: A Major Application Month
Sogang University's fall 2026 undergraduate application ran from April 6 to May 15. The University of Seoul accepted online applications from April 13 to 22 and documents from April 21 to 30. Gachon University's first undergraduate round ran from April 13 to 24.
Notice the difference between an online form deadline and a document deadline. Completing one does not automatically complete the other. Save the confirmation and check your status in the method stated by the university.
May: More Universities and Later Rounds
Kangwon National University's fall 2026 undergraduate and graduate application ran from May 11 to June 12. Gangneung Wonju National University ran from May 18 to June 12 for foreign undergraduate admission. Sookmyung Women's University also had a later undergraduate round from May 13 to 31.
May is not a universal closing month. It is simply another point in a staggered calendar. Always check the university's own notice.
June: Applications Close, Reviews Continue, Results Arrive
Jeju International University's fall application ran from June 1 to 10, followed by an interview on June 15 and result on June 19. Yonsei and the University of Seoul also announced verified fall undergraduate results on June 19. Sogang's undergraduate result followed on June 26.
Gangneung Wonju National University continued document screening through July 2. This is a useful reminder: silence after submission does not mean rejection. Follow the stated result date and check requests for corrections or interviews.
July: Later Rounds and Registration
Some schools are still accepting applications in July. Halla University's third fall round ran from July 8 to 15. Jeju International University's registration continued through July 17. Gangneung Wonju National University announced results on July 16 and scheduled registration from July 20 to 24.
But a late round gives you less time for the steps after admission. It does not create a faster visa process. Before choosing a late round, check whether your document, payment, visa, housing, and travel plan is realistic.
August: Tuition, D-2, Housing, and Arrival
Halla University's final tuition payment deadline for its fall 2026 rounds was August 4. Other universities use their own payment dates.
Once your admission and registration steps are complete, follow the university and embassy instructions for the D-2 application. For the visa details, use our Korean Student Visa (D-2 & D-4): Full Guide and verify every requirement with official authorities.
If your visa is delayed, tell the university before the arrival deadline. Do not assume you can enter late, begin online, or move admission to spring.
September: Enter Korea and Start the Semester
Follow the reporting, orientation, dormitory, and class instructions from your university. The offer letter alone does not replace registration or immigration requirements.
The Seven Steps and What Being Late Can Change
| Step | What to confirm | If you are late |
|---|---|---|
| Application | Portal, round, applicant type, and closing time | The form may close; check for another round or intake |
| Documents | Upload and physical delivery rules | Your file may be incomplete or excluded under the notice |
| Screening | Interview, test, or document review instructions | A missed required action can end the review |
| Result | Where and when the result appears | You may lose preparation time for registration |
| Registration | Acceptance response and tuition payment | The university may cancel or not complete the admission |
| D-2 application | Current embassy or immigration instructions | A delayed decision can affect entry timing |
| Arrival | University reporting and class-start instructions | Late entry or deferral needs university approval |
The words "may" and "can" matter. Consequences differ. Read the exact rule in your university's notice.
Build Your Own University Timeline
Create one line for every target university. Record the intake, degree, track, application, documents, interview, result, registration, admission-document issue, housing, and arrival.
Do not combine dates from different rounds. Do not use a graduate schedule for an undergraduate application. Do not use a Korean-track rule for an English-track degree. Most importantly, do not treat a blog table as a live admissions notice.
Check these points:
- Is this the notice for international applicants?
- Is it for my degree level and entry type?
- Is it for March or September entry?
- Does the deadline use Korea Standard Time?
- Must physical documents arrive, or only be sent, by the date?
- What happens after acceptance?
Always check the university's own notice. If a current date is not published, write "not announced" in your plan and keep checking the admissions page.
