The Short Answer

The best universities in Korea for international students by major are not one fixed ranking. The useful shortlist changes with your subject and study language.

For engineering, science-focused institutions such as KAIST, POSTECH, UNIST, and GIST have clear English-medium evidence. Large comprehensive universities such as Hanyang, Sungkyunkwan, and Inha offer wider engineering menus.

For business, look at the exact route. Woosong lists the fully English SolBridge business school. Yonsei lists Underwood International College. Korea, Sungkyunkwan, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Kyung Hee, and Sogang also list business programs and some form of English-track or English-taught access.

For Korean studies and humanities, Korean language depth can matter as much as English access. HUFS, Sogang, Korea, Yonsei, Kyung Hee, Hallym, and Kyungsung all list relevant majors, but their program structures are different.

How We Built These Major-Based Shortlists

We checked whether the subject is listed, an international admission route exists, English-track evidence is confirmed, and the institution type and location fit the comparison. We did not score prestige, jobs, teaching quality, or admission difficulty. The data does not support one honest combined score. “Partial” English access means only selected units or programs. Confirm the teaching language for your exact major.

Engineering: Who Each University May Fit

This group includes science and technology institutions plus comprehensive universities with broad engineering choices. Choose between a focused STEM environment and a larger university with more subjects around it.

KAIST, POSTECH, UNIST, and GIST may fit students who want a science-focused environment with clear English-medium evidence. Check that your exact field is offered.

Hanyang, Sungkyunkwan, and Inha may fit students who want engineering inside a broader university. An available English track does not mean every required class is in English. Ask the department for its current curriculum and teaching language.

Business: Who Each University May Fit

Business can mean general management, finance, international trade, hospitality, technology management, or a fully international college. Start with the program structure, not the word “business.”

Woosong may fit a student who wants a clearly named, fully English business route. Yonsei combines an international college structure with broader business and economics options.

HUFS connects business with languages and trade. Kyung Hee lists hospitality and tourism as well as general business. Sogang, Korea, and Sungkyunkwan list several business-related routes. For each school, confirm whether your intended degree is fully English, partly English, or Korean-medium.

Korean Studies and Humanities: Who Each University May Fit

This area needs careful reading. “Korean studies” may mean Korean language education, literature, history, culture, translation, or a broader global Korea program. These are not interchangeable.

HUFS may fit students interested in language teaching, translation, or Korea in a multilingual context. Sogang and Korea list Korea-focused programs beside traditional humanities.

Yonsei offers an international-college route, while Kyung Hee lists several Korean-language and culture subjects. Hallym and Kyungsung provide regional options with named Korean Studies programs.

Do not automatically prefer the most English-heavy route. Korean-medium study may create stronger language immersion, while English support may ease the academic transition.

What These Tables Cannot Decide for You

The tables cannot predict admission or prove which department has the best teaching, employer network, or student life. They only confirm useful first filters.

Open the current international admission notice for your exact department. Check the teaching language, required language proof, curriculum, campus, and support contact. Ask the international office and department about anything missing.
