Eligibility
Who can apply
- Foreign nationals (excluding dual Korean citizens) who are incoming/prospective students in the relevant semester at a partner Korean university, majoring in one of the target fields.
- Graduate track: new full-degree graduate students.
- Undergraduate track: visiting students from Indonesia/Vietnam.
- Korean-language/Korean-studies track has a broader eligible-nationality list (see target_nationalities).
Nationalities
- Core 8 ASEAN countries: Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos.
- NOTE: the Korean-language/Korean-studies major track has expanded eligibility to 15 nationalities per the Fall 2026 SNU notice — adding Timor-Leste (East Timor), Uzbekistan, and African countries Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania.
- Undergraduate visiting track: Indonesia and Vietnam only.
How to apply
Application period
- Annual, aligned to Korean university admission cycles (Spring / 2 intakes).
- Current open cycle: Fall 2026 — university document submission deadline 2026-07-15.
- Prior Spring cycle deadline example: 2023-12-29 (for Spring 2024 intake). (unverified: exact universal open / close dates vary per partner university)
How to apply
- Applied through partner-university international offices.
- Applicants submit required documents to their college/department administration office, which compiles and submits materials (via provided forms) to the university’s Office of International Affairs
- the university then nominates candidates to the foundation.
- Not a direct-to-foundation individual application.

Keeping the scholarship
Renewal conditions
- Graduate track covers full degree from admission to graduation within duration limits: Master’s up to 4 semesters, Doctoral up to 8 semesters, Integrated Master’s-Doctoral up to 10 semesters (contingent on maintaining enrollment / academic standing).
- Undergraduate visiting track: approx 1 year
- outstanding undergraduate scholars may be considered for continued support into graduate programs. (unverified: specific GPA / renewal thresholds)
Track record. Since 2020: 244 graduate scholars, about KRW 14 billion (about KRW 57M / person). Undergraduate visiting track added 2024 (Indonesia), 2025 (Vietnam).
